Who we are...

Erik Lavigne Bio Photo

Erik Lavigne

My name is Erik Lavigne and I’ve been in law enforcement since 2006. I was born in Flint, Michigan. I joined active duty Air Force as a Security Forces member. I served 4 years at Malmstrom AFB. I later became a cop in Saginaw, Mi. I then transferred to the DFW area of Texas. I am currently a midnight Patrol Sergeant and I also continue to serve the United States Air Force as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (reservist attached to active duty unit) for the 802 Security Forces Squadron.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a dual master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Texas Christian University. I’ve been a police academy instructor for 3 years on one of the 12 largest departments in the nation. I am BJJ Purple belt who believes all cops should be mandatory blue belts to be in law enforcement.

I created this concept of the podcast/social media to improve law enforcement and community relations in a new way. I want to highlight the good work police are doing, but also not be afraid to call out the bad. No matter what, I want to figure out a way to always make every piece of content educational or sometimes humorous. My hope is to use what I’ve learned from the podcast to go for my doctorate to continue on improving policing.

Banning Sweatland

I began my law enforcement career in 2002 after proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps. While working at Haltom City I was selected as a canine handler early in my career. My canine parter was a black Labrador Retriever named, Mary Jane. Mary Jane specialized in ground disturbance tracking, article recovery and locating narcotics. After many successful years in canine, Mary Jane retired and I returned to the patrol division. I retired after 16 years from the Haltom City Police Department, and I moved with my family from Fort Worth to Jacksboro in 2019. I served for about two years at the Jacksboro Police Department to assist with supervisory duties for the patrol division and administration.

I was hired as a patrol supervisor for the Jack County Sheriff’s Office before retiring from law enforcement in 2024. I have had the privilege to be mentored by amazing leaders throughout my career in law enforcement and the military. The lessons that I have learned and the experience I have gained are what I strive to provide to our deputies and any first responder that I encounter. I always make it a mission to leave a positive impact with every citizen and visitor I have had the honor of meeting or assisting on the job or off duty.

Matt Thornton

Matt Thornton

I am a 49 year old Irish Mexican father of 7, ex-boxer, detective, and patrolman. I am a former manic depressive, suicidal, dreadfully sinful cop who was desperately lost. I was as close to taking my own life as any cop has ever been until an unlikely encounter on night shift changed my entire life.

I am now an advocate and living testimony of the desperate need for accountability, reform, and unity in our profession. My story has been shared with millions due to the graciousness of CBS, NBC, and ABC television. I also have over 700,000 followers and subscribers across social media platforms.

I have been blessed to be the founder of an outreach entitled "My Father's Business” also known as MFB. MFB is designed to save lives like mine was saved. Our main target is street kids, young gang members, and the fatherless. What started off as simply six young men in a small gym has now turned into a movement that has served hundreds and hundreds of Illinois youth. Through MFB we have been able to pour approximately $500,000 back into the community in 10 years of existence. We teach every youth who walks in our doors about God, hope, love, and we chip away at the barrier between the streets and the police.

I go by “Trey”. Im a Police Officer in southern California.

I’m from Los Angeles. I grew up my entire life based around sports and I was blessed enough to play football at the college level.

I never had any intentions on becoming a Police Officer. I grew up with a loving and supportive family, how ever they made choices that put them on the wrong side of the law. For that reason I hated police, because I felt as though they were responsible for taking my family away.

When I joined law enforcement in 2022 my goal was to change what I thought was the “racist police system”. Once actually becoming a police officer I quickly noticed I had it wrong and majority of cops are nothing like what I thought or how media portrays. So from there I made it my mission to allow others to see what I see.

I believe the only way to achieve that mission is to educate the public on how police actually operate. Because education about Police work is the very thing that changed my biases I had against police.
